If you run a manufacturing or engineering business, you already know that your people are as important as your processes. But when something goes wrong on the HR side, it can bring everything to a standstill.
Whether it’s a grievance from a long-serving employee, a redundancy process (you can download our free Employer Guide to Restructures for a practical overview) that needs handling properly first time, or contracts that haven’t kept pace with how the business has grown, these situations land on manufacturing leaders’ desks every week and they’re exactly what we’re here to handle.
Limelite HR & Learning is an HR consultancy for manufacturing and engineering businesses across Worcestershire, the West Midlands, Warwickshire and beyond. We provide practical, commercially minded HR support that understands the realities of running a production business.

Managing people in a manufacturing environment isn’t the same as HR in an office. You’re dealing with shift workers, varying contracts, complex absence patterns, and a workforce where relationships and long service are the norm. On top of that, the employment law landscape is constantly shifting — the Employment Rights Act 2025 alone brings significant changes that manufacturing businesses need to be across.
Get it wrong and the costs are real. Tribunal claims, productivity losses, damage to your reputation as an employer. Get it right and you have a stable, motivated workforce that helps the business grow.
We’ve supported manufacturers and engineering businesses of all sizes, from owner-managed SMEs to multi-site operations. We know what matters in your world and we give you straightforward, legally sound advice you can act on.
Our HR consultancy service for manufacturing covers everything from day-to-day employee relations through to complex change management:
We work directly with business owners, operations directors, HR managers and plant managers. However your business is structured, we’ll fit around you. If you manage shift workers, it’s also worth making sure you’re up to date on the statutory sick pay changes from April 2026 and the new holiday pay rules — both of which affect manufacturing businesses directly.
Recruiting skilled workers in the trades and manufacturing sector is one of the biggest challenges businesses face right now. The applications come in, but often the quality doesn’t match the quality of the business. That gap is almost always about how the business is presenting itself to candidates, not about the talent pool drying up.
We worked with Fixed Heating Ltd, a heating and plumbing business that was struggling to attract the calibre of applicants their roles deserved. We carried out a full review of their employer brand presence including their job adverts, website, social media and candidate experience from application through to interview. What we found was typical of skilled trades businesses. Good adverts weren’t telling enough of the story, and the hiring process wasn’t consistent enough from one role to the next.
We delivered a detailed recommendations report and a full suite of recruitment templates, including standardised job descriptions, an interview scoring matrix to reduce bias, and an induction checklist to give every new starter the same solid start.
“Helen has been very helpful with our recruitment and has helped me see the importance of pitching our company to potential applicants. I have tweaked my approach to this, and I think I have seen a change in the response. I have more understanding of what we should highlight about the company and now, on initially reaching out to candidates, take a moment to talk about the company and why it is nice to work there.”

Many of our manufacturing clients work with us on a retained basis. That means a named HR consultant who knows your business, your workforce and your history, available when you need them.
It’s a cost-effective way to have senior HR expertise without the overhead of a full-time HR function. You get proactive support, not just reactive firefighting. And because we’re commercially minded, we always have one eye on what’s right for the business as well as what’s right for the employee.
Not ready for a retained arrangement? We also work with manufacturing businesses on specific projects and one-off pieces of work.
If you’re planning a restructure, need to update your employment contracts, want to put a proper performance framework in place, or have a complex disciplinary that needs expert handling, we can step in and deliver it. The changes to unfair dismissal rules coming in under the Employment Rights Act make getting disciplinary processes right more important than ever. No long-term commitments, just the support you need.
Limelite HR & Learning works closely with Worcestershire County Council and regularly has access to funded support programmes for eligible businesses. If your manufacturing or engineering business is based in Worcestershire, it’s worth asking us what might be available.
If your manufacturing or engineering business needs reliable, commercially minded HR support, we’d love to talk.
Manufacturing businesses most commonly need support with employee relations issues such as disciplinaries, grievances and absence management, as well as contracts, policies and redundancy processes. Shift-based workforces and long-serving employees can make these situations more complex than in other sectors, which is why having an HR consultant who understands manufacturing makes a real difference.
Yes. Redundancy in a manufacturing environment often involves collective consultation obligations, selection processes and TUPE considerations, particularly where contracts are changing hands or sites are closing. We guide businesses through the full process to make sure it’s handled fairly, legally and with as little disruption to the business as possible.
Shift workers and those on variable-hours contracts have specific employment rights around pay, rest periods, contract terms and notice. We help manufacturing businesses make sure their contracts are legally compliant, their shift arrangements are documented properly, and that any changes are handled in a way that reduces the risk of disputes or tribunal claims.
We work with manufacturing and engineering businesses of all sizes, but our sweet spot is SMEs. Owner-managed manufacturers, family businesses and growing engineering firms often don’t have an in-house HR function, which is exactly where we add the most value. You get senior-level HR expertise without the cost of employing someone full time.

Working with the HR consultancy team at Limelite HR was a positive and collaborative experience. Lisa and Helen were warm, professional, and easy to work with throughout. They took time to listen, understand our organisation and culture, and offered thoughtful input as we developed our ideas.
The process helped us reflect on how we present our offer to volunteers and gave us space to shape a resource that communicates what KEMP stands for in a more visual and accessible way. The idea of a Culture Book aligned well with our ambitions to enhance the volunteer experience, and it has provided a useful platform to build on.
The consultancy gave us an opportunity to pause, review, and refocus—something that can be difficult to do internally in a busy organisation. It’s supported us in moving forward with greater clarity and intention around our volunteer communications and experience.

Firstly, thank you for turning the report around so quickly – much appreciated.
Secondly, and even more importantly, I wanted to say what an impressive piece of work it is. The skills is in interpreting the data you’ve gathered and presenting it in a meaningful way, and you’ve absolutely nailed it. Well done!

At YMCA Worcestershire, we have been through a period of substantial change and development. As part of this we refreshed our vision, mission and values. We also did some solid work in creating a strategic framework with top line objectives. While we had done some preliminaries on further development of this into measurables, a challenge of capacity issues with a need for more operational focus was emerging. We were keen to get through this bottleneck because we knew the strategic planning and implementation would help to ease the operational challenges.
We were very grateful to get Workforce Planning support for this through consultancy work with Limelite HR who reviewed what we’d done so far, liaised with key staff members and helped us to harness this into a more complete and workable format. This is now enabling us to have a clearer road map in our efforts and a means by which to monitor progress and will, in this respect, enhance our impact for those we serve in our charitable and transformative work. We very much appreciated the timely help with this – thank you to Workforce Planning and Limelite HR!

Limelite HR & Learning recently supported me, our Trustees and our team at the Maternal Mental Health Alliance through a review of our terms and conditions. It was a great experience from start to finish. Their guidance was balanced and they really understood the nuance of our specific situation as a small charity. Relationships are at the heart of all they do and this is reflected in such a positive outcome. They are incredibly pro-active, write brilliant and succinct reports. I cannot recommend them highly enough.

Limelite HR & Learning provided exactly the support our senior leadership team needed during a period of significant organisational change. They quickly understood our structure and our challenges. The tailored workforce planning session was practical, engaging, and relevant to our real scenarios.
The tools and templates they created for us have already strengthened our planning and helped us think more strategically about capability, succession, and risk. We left the session more confident, better equipped, and far clearer on the HR actions needed to move the business forward.
I would highly recommend Limelite HR & Learning to any organisation looking to build stronger leadership and a more resilient workforce.
